OK, folks, I don't often talk about politics on this little old blog of mine. Why not, Scott?
Well, let me tell you. Talking about politics on a blog often strikes me a little like masturbating to a picture of yourself: self absorbed and not a good conversation starter.
However, I am angry with both the left and the right (and might I add that I am a registered Republican but I don't really consider myself to be part of either party. I registered Republican because I think the Federal government should be fairly small, fiscally responsible, and out for the people's best interests rather than corporations; sadly things that seem not to either party at the moment) and how they are dealing with this disaster. Bottom line, people who politicize a disaster are not worth my time, and they're not worth your time either, dear reader.
I read somewhere that the Federal government was slow to respond because all the 'trucks where in Iraq.' What? That's just idiotic. A lot of folks are thinking that we don't have enough National Guardsmen (and women) to help with the relief effort because they too are 'all in Iraq.' No, no they're not. Sure, we have lots of resources tied up in Iraq but America is the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world. We can do both (it doesn't matter if you think we should be in Iraq or not, my point is that there are enough people to handle both) the real question is why was this bungled so badly?
I imagine that the folks in charge just didn't think the problem was that bad, and because of that I am forced to believe that most people in Washington, whether they be elephants or donkeys (though most are just jackasses) are morons.
However, there will be plenty of time for finger pointing after this situation has been dealt with. People are taking this situation as a great opportunity to lambast the President or complain about the 'liberal media,' or just liberals in general. I have one thing to say to those people: the use of all of this death and destruction to further your political agenda turns my stomach.
We are all Americans, and as corny as this sounds, our countrymen need us.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled nonsense.
